Even though a significant elevation gain has already been achieved, redwood trees are still prevalent on the mountain side. It is unusual to find one as large as this which has fallen across the trail. It must have taken considerable effort for the park service to clear the trail. A debt of gratitude is owed to all those individuals who maintain these trails.
