It is a short trek through the elfin forest before you stand below the towering promontory that is Buzzard's Roost. Although I did not see any buzzards on the day I hiked, there were several falcons circling on the updrafts to be found at these heights. Standing among the stark sandstone formations, it is hard to remember the dense redwood forest you started from.
