Here a large redwood tree has fallen sometime in the past. Unlike the Goliath that was pictured in "Wooden Portals", this was small enough to have been sectioned. The portion blocking the trail was actually removed allowing the hiker free passage. What remains provide the hiker with an up close view of the growth ring structure of these living fossils.
