Subjective Trail Rating for Beauty and Difficulty:
To many people Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park is Big Sur. This makes it the most popular park for visitors to the Big Sur area. Within Pfeiffer Big Sur, the Pfeiffer Falls trail is hiked the most. It has everything Big Sur offers in a relatively easy hike. The difficulty level for the hike to the falls is easy to moderate and increases to a moderate level while hiking to the Valley Viewpoint. The falls are superlative if seen during high flow and the views of the valley are outstanding.
No permits are required. A state park entrance fee is charged for each vehicle.
From Carmel, drive 27 miles south on Highway 1 to the Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park entrance. A day use fee is charged at the gate.
Park maps are available from the park office. For USGS topographic maps, ask for Big Sur and Pfeiffer Point.
