The trail now clings to the edge of the escarpment as it rounds Varian peak. This passage may be rough if you have a fear of heights. The views are breathtaking on a clear day with wide vistas of the redwood forests, Monterey bay and the Pacific Ocean. Be sure to watch your footing as a slip here could prove very hazardous.
