You are now traveling in the "high" country of Henry Cowell. Most of the redwoods found here are second growth trees that are less than a hundred years. You will also pass some of the large stumps of the ancient trees that were lumbered during the heavy logging activity of the 1900's. More oak and madrone can be found here as this microclime is drier than in the valley below.
