The hillsides in this area can be quite steep in some places. This combined with the abundant rainfall that occurs in the Winter months will often loosen a tree's grip on the firmament. The Santa Cruz mountains get an average of 60 inches of rain a year. This far exceeds the amount received by Seattle. Here, several trees have tilted precipitously and only the support of their neighbors prevent them from falling.
