This luxuriant stand of sword ferns is typical of the vibrant vegetation that grows in the Santa Cruz mountains. The shade that is provided by the redwood forest combined with abundant rainfall, provides an ideal climate for ferns. It is fascinating to see the lush growth of these ferns occurring in the wild when they are so difficult to grow as house plants.
