Mt. Lassen Reflected in Lake Helen

Trail Thoughts and Musings

Mt. Lassen, the dominating feature in the park, now becomes visible from this vantage point as it reflects in the waters of Lake Helen. The lake was named after the first woman to have climbed to the summit of Mt. Lassen. It creates an enigma, in that it's 110 foot deep basin was carved by a south flowing glacier, yet Mt. Lassen's slopes are unglaciated. The lake must predate the volcano.
