All too soon, the level path once again angles towards the sky. This will be the last uphill climb before the final descent into Bumpass Hell. The terrain is filled with vegetation and tall mountain hemlocks line the trail. Their short waxy needles and a spreading root system help them to grow on these dry slopes. One bare trunk stands out bearing witness to the harsh climate to be found here.
