As the trail nears the creek, it passes through a section of human assisted reforestation. Even while the ashes were still smoldering, timber companies began to regrow this forest. Previously collected seeds were used along with ones collected from the few trees that survived. Here a new forest grows at the feet of the skeletons of the old forest. About 90% of the burnt land was in private hands.
