Because almost half of the forest that was destroyed was owned by Roseburg Resources Co. much of the dead timber was removed for salvage. As many as 600 log truck loads per day began moving dead timber to the mills within two weeks after the fire. Some areas, however, were left to reforest naturally. Here the new trees almost engulf the remnants of the old forest.
