December 10, 2017 — 2:00 PM — Two Bell services will be conducted for Stephen J. Salay at the Rhome Funeral Home, 1209 Grand Blvd. Monessen, PA, on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM. Shipmates are requested to be at the funeral home no later than 1:45 PM.

December 5, 2017 — 5:00 PM — Christmas Party-----To be held on Tuesday, Dec. 5. The committee and all those who would be kind enough to help, should be at the Legion Post at 10:00 AM, Dec. 5, to decorate and set up. The more help we have, the faster we can wrap everything up. The committee will return at 4:00 PM to finish up with the final details. The doors will open at 5:00 PM, with George Diehl and Dorothy Cowan checking in the arrivals and giving out door prize tickets. Again, only one ticket per couple. Susan Essey will also be at the door to pass out the ladies gift and drink tickets. There will be NO share the wealth tickets this year. D&D is the caterer again this year and food will be served at 6.00 PM. Patrick Maloy will be playing music throughout the evening. A Two Bell ceremony will be held, honoring our deceased shipmates of the past year. Door prize drawings will be held all through the evening. Mike Kemple is procuring a band to play. If anyone would like to present anything, i.e. a reading or Navy service story or whatever, during the evening, please contact George Essey at 724-684-9239. Joe Gallo will lead the group in singing Christmas Carols.

November 11, 2017 — 8:45 AM — The plans for the Veterans Day parade on November 11 are as follows. Memorial services will be held at Chess Park in the morning and the Shipmates will do the Two-Bell services. Shipmates are requested to be at the park by 8:45 AM, in the winter uniform. After the memorial services, the parade units will line up at 7th Street at 11 AM and the parade will start at noon and proceed to 1st Street. See the News page for additional details.

November 9, 2017 — 8:00 AM — The Veterans breakfast and program for the Middle School and the Ringgold North (Gastonville) Veterans event scheduled for the 9th of November has been cancelled until May of next year, due to the potential strike at Ringgold

November 8, 2017 — 8:50 AM — Charleroi Area school is hosting a Veteran appreciation day on Wednesday, November 8, starting with breakfast at 8:30 AM, and followed by the program at the Gym at 9:30 AM. Shipmates are invited to participate, but you must call in your reservation by calling 724-483-3509, EXT 1213. Please wear your winter uniform if you plan to attend MINUS your Dixie Cup hat.

November 6, 2017 — 7:00 PM — The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 6, at 7:00 PM, due to election day is Tuesday.

October 29, 2017 — 8:00 AM — Ringgold Middle School will host a band concert featuring the Greater Monongahela Area Community Band on Sunday, October 29 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ringgold Middle School Auditorium.The annual concert is a tribute to veterans and first responders. The school is located at 6023 State Rte 88 in Finleyville and the concert is free and open to the public. Shipmates and their guests are requested to meet in the School Hall by 1:45 PM and the winter uniform is the dress code for the shipmates. No registration necessary for this event.

October 7, 2017 — 8:00 AM — Permission has been given for the Shipmates to set up an informational booth at the Fall Mon City Flea Tek on October 7th, from 8 AM to 3 PM, at the corner entrance to Chess Park.

October 3, 2017 — 7:00 PM — October meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 7:00 pm, 7 PM at the Legion Home in Dunkirk.

September 19, 2017 — 5:10 PM — Two Bell services will be conducted for George Klochak at the Anthony L. Massafra Funeral Home, 40 Second Street Extension, Donora, PA, on Tuesday afternoon at 5:30 PM. Viewing is from 5 pm to 8 pm, so we will do the services at 5:30 PM. Shipmates are requested to be at the funeral home no later than 5:10 PM.

September 5, 2017 — 7:00 PM — September meeting is scheduled for Tuesday evening, September 5, 2017, 7 PM at the Legion Home in Dunkirk.

August 3, 2017 — 3:15 PM — A TWO-BELL service is scheduled for Thursday afternoon, August 3, at 3:30 PM, at the Marshall Marra Funeral Home in Monongahela, for Shipmate George Hutchko. Shipmates should be at the funeral home no later than 3:15 PM.

August 1, 2017 — 7:00 PM — August meeting is scheduled for Tuesday evening, August 1, 2017, 7 PM at the Legion Home in Dunkirk.

July 26, 2017 — The annual Finleyville parade is scheduled for July 26, 2017, at 7:00 PM. Shipmates are to assemble at the CC Dance Studio parking lot by 6:45 PM.

July 22, 2017 — The annual picnic will be held on Saturday, July 22, in Joziwak Hall, Monessen (Old Park Casino).

July 17, 2017 — 6:45 PM — A TWO-BELL service is scheduled for Monday evening, July 17, at 7:00 PM, at the Rhome Funeral Home in Monessen, for William E. Harper. Shipmates should be at the funeral home no later than 6:45 PM.

July 3, 2017 — 7:00 PM — July meeting is scheduled for Monday evening, July 3, 2017, 7 PM at the Legion Home in Dunkirk. This because Tuesday falls on July 4th.

June 30, 2017 — 6:45 PM — A TWO-BELL service is scheduled for Friday evening, June 30, at 7:00 PM, at the Massafra Funeral Home in Donora, for Robert Turnbull. Shipmates should be at the funeral home no later than 6:45 PM.

June 26, 2017 — 12:00 Noon — Flag Presentation on June 26 at BSA Camp Anawana in Prosperity PA at 12 noon

June 6, 2017 — 7:00 PM — June meeting is scheduled for Tuesday evening, June 6, 2017, 7 PM at the Legion Home in Dunkirk.

June 3, 2017 — All Day — Our Fund raiser at Wal-Mart will be held on June 3. The sign up roster has a few opening and we need signers to fill them in. We ask for one hour of your time to stand and collect, as we are only permitted one collection this year.

June 2, 2017 — 12:00 Noon — Flag Presentation on June 2 at Area Golden Agers in Charleroi (Lunch).

May 29, 2017 — 9:00 AM — Memorial Day Parade to be held in Monongahela on May 29, at 9 AM. Line up is at the PNC Parking lot and the parade will proceed to the red light at the Sheetz gas station. The memorial service will then be held at the cemetery at 9:45, with additional services at different cemeteries and end up with a luncheon at the Legion Home in Dunkirk. Effective May 1st the uniform of the day is short sleeve shirts.
Monessen Memorial services will be held at the War Memorial in City Park at 12 NOON on Sunday, May 28. The shipmates will be doing the Two-Bell services. In case of rain, services will be held at the Chapel on Penna Blvd, Monessen.

March 28, 2017 — 9:30 AM — Tuesday, March 28th, the Flag Committee will be traveling to the J.F.K. Elem School in Washington PA for a 1 PM session to the 5th graders. .

March 7, 2017 — 7:00 PM — The March meeting for the Mid-Mon Valley Shipmates is scheduled for Tuesday, March 7, 7:00 PM, at the James C. Ford Post 949 American Legion Home in Carroll Township. Dues for 2017 are payable and is set at $20.00. Make checks payable to Mid-Mon Valley Shipmates. The meeting is open to all Naval Personnel, active, honorably discharged and/or retired.

March 7, 2017 — 9:30 AM — On Tuesday, March 7, at 9:30 AM, The Flag committee will travel to the Cecil Intermediate School in McDonald PA, to present the program to the 5th grade students. Help is needed, so if you can lend a hand, call Barry, Patrick, LaLa or George.

March 3, 2017 — 12:00 PM (Noon) — The Flag committee will presented the Flag Etiquette Program Friday, March 3, 12 noon, to the residents at the Redstone Highland Adult Residence in North Huntingdon PA. Help is needed, so if you can lend a hand, call Barry, Patrick, LaLa or George.

February 17, 2017 — 7:00 PM — A Two-bell service will be held on Friday evening, Feb. 17, at 7:00 PM. in the Anthony Massafra Funeral Home, 2nd Street Ext., Donora PA, for Joseph Wohar. Please plan to attend and be at the funeral home no later than 6:45 PM. Information on Mr. Wohar will be sent out as soon as it becomes available. -- Winter uniforms.

February 07, 2017 — 7:00 PM — The regular monthly meetings will resume on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, 7:00 PM, at the American Legion Home in Dunkirk

January 03, 2017 — 7:00 PM — There will be no meeting of the Mid Mon Valley Shipmates in January. The next scheduled meeting will be in February.

December 09, 2016 — 7:00 PM — A Two-Bell Service will be conducted Friday evening, December 9, 2016, 7:00 PM at the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home on McKee Ave., Monessen PA, for William DiMascio. It is believed that Mr. DiMascio was a former member of the MMVS.
Shipmates are requested to be at the funeral home no later than 6:45 PM. Dress code -- Winter uniforms.

December 02, 2016 — 7:00 PM — Two-Bell services will be held Friday evening, 7:00 PM, Dec. 02, 2016, at the Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home in Charleroi for our shipmate, JOHN "JACK" HOAK. Jack was very active with the flag etiquette program and always had the students surround him after the presentation and ask him question about the deep sea diving and de-fusing mines, bombs, etc.
Shipmates are requested to be at the funeral home no later than 6:45 PM. Dress code -- Winter uniforms.

December 06, 2016 — 5:00 PM — ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY
The party falls on a Tuesday and will be held at the American Legion Home, Dunkirk PA.

Door Greeters:
George Diehl & Dorothy Cowan to take care of checking in members.
Barry & Diane Anders to pass out bar tickets and door gifts.
Susan Essey to handle Share-the-Wealth.
Maloy to take care of the music venue.
Anders to contact the Harp Musical Group for the program.
Hopefully, Mr. & Mrs. Claus will make their annual visit!

The menu was discussed at length and this year we will be having Bruno’s Catering doing the honors. On the menu for this year is Tossed Salad, Mashed Potatoes, Mixed Vegetables, Roast Beef and Baked Stuffed Chicken, rolls and butter. Coffee will be available.

Bruno’s will supply the disposables and have servers at the food tables. Salads will be preset at the tables prior to chow time. Anders will be supplying the sheet cake.

Gallo will be sending out the invitation shortly with a deadline date for submitting your response. This year, any members who make a RESERVATION, but does not attend, we will assess them the cost of the meal that we make for them. Last year, we had 5 no-shows and also 4 who showed up without making a reservation. Please do not be one of these members.
Send in your response so that we can plan accordingly.

The planning committee are requested to be at the Legion at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, Dec. 6, to set up the tables and decorate, and then to return 4:00 PM to set out the chips, etc., put on the coffee and finish setting up.

Tentative schedule:

4:00 to 5:00 set up greeting table and registration.

5:00 to5:30 Happy hour and socializing. Maloy to be playing music through out the evening.

(??) 7:15 Introduction of the officers, both outgoing and incoming. Introduction of the Flag Committee. Introduction of the party committee.
Readings, stories, jokes by anyone who wishes to participate.
Two-Bell Ceremony — deceased this past year is CPO Phillip Appolonia.

(??) 8:00 The Ringgold Harp Musical Group to present their musical program.
Share the wealth and door prize drawings to be held thru-out the evening.

November 28, 2016 — 7:15 PM A Two-Bell service is scheduled for Monday evening at the Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home in Charleroi, at 7:30 PM. The deceased is Mr. Oates from Roscoe. Will send out the obit as soon as I receive it.
Winter uniform to be used, please be there no later than 7:15 PM

November 12, 2016 — Annual Veterans Day parade. Donora is the host city this year. Line up at 6th and Meldon at 2:00 to 2:30 PM. Parade to start at 3:00 PM. Luncheon at the Boro Bldg Community room at 12 Noon. Admission to the luncheon is by ticket only. We have a few left and if you wish to go, please call CO Hess. Caldwell will have the truck with benches for the non-walkers.

November 11, 2016 — 10:00 AM — Veteran’s Day program at Chess Park. The following will take part in the annual service: Mon Valley Leathernecks, Mid-Mon Valley Shipmates, American Legion-posts 302, 613 and 949 Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1409 and many local veterans. Shipmates should be at Chess Park no later than 9:45 AM. (Winter uniform)


November 11, 2016 — 9:00 AM — Flag Pole dedication to be held at the island to the lower entrance of the Monongahela Cemetery. Each unit is requested to bring their own colors. Dress code – winter uniforms.

November 10, 2016 — 8:15 AM — Veterans program, Finleyville Middle School. Breakfast at 8:15 with presentation of colors and program at 9:00 AM. Dress code–winter uniforms.

November 10, 2016 — 12:30 PM — Veterans luncheon at 12:30 with program to follow at 1:30. Dress code–winter uniforms.

November 27, 2016 — 5:00 PM Shipmates participation in the Monessen Christmas Parade has been canceled due to lack of particpants.
