The Mid Mon Valley Shipmates Flag Etiquette Committee is preparing their Flag Etiquette Program for the 2019-2020 School Years. The program is available to all area schools, primarily the 5th grade students, and to area groups.
The program is approximately 45 minutes and explains the history of our National Emblem “Old Glory”, the Flag Code addresses disrespect and the proper respect for the Flag: The Pledge of Allegiance: The National Anthem: and includes a stirring poem about the American Flag. The Shipmates do the proper folding of the flag as the meaning of each fold is explained. This is followed by three students repeating the folding of the flag. Time permitting, a Q&A is held and the Shipmates are
introduced giving a short history of their Navy duties, land and sea assignments/experiences. The program concludes with the proper way to retire the flag at the end of the day.
