Hillside Redwood Grove
Trail Thoughts and Musings
Big Basin provides many examples of redwood trees growing on steep hillsides. Although coastal redwoods have no hesitancy in living on steep inclines, it is rare to see large old-growth specimens doing so. This is because most redwoods were clear cut in this area during the late 1800's. Big Basin was one of the few areas not so decimated. Here the trail winds among some of the stately old trees.
