The trail turns left to reach the front of the kilns. Do not take the trail that goes straight ahead, as this will take you up to the Felton-Empire road. These once proud kilns now require timber support to prevent their collapse. A total of 15 to 17 men were involved in the operations. The fires were kept burning, 24 hours a day for 3-4 day periods. Most of the workers lived in cabins located around the kilns and barrel mill.
