The massive rainstorms created by the El Niño event in February created supersaturated soil. It is at this time that landslides pose the greatest threat in mountain areas. Here at the crest of the Cape Horn trail, just such an event has occurred. When the earth moves, the trees growing in it have no chance. The mud and wood debris have blocked over half of this old road.
