Perhaps best remembered for carrying out a Civil War plan to divide the Confederate States, General William Tecumseh Sherman's "March to the Sea" is considered one of the classic military maneuvers of all time. If you are from the South, your memory might not be so generous. The tree is about 250 feet tall and 50 feet around. It is perhaps no coincidence that it is blackened by fire.
