Live oak thrive in this area and these hardy trees are a common sight along the trail. Sometimes they can form very fanciful formations such as the interlacing archway seen here. The tree on the right is growing at a near horizontal angle from the hillside. Its branches now intertwine with the trees on the left like some complicated filigreed work of art.
