The Descent Into Hell
Trail Thoughts and Musings
In the next 1/4 mile the trail will lose all of the elevation gain made so far. In fact, the trail starts at 8,200 feet and Bumpass Hell lies at 8,100 feet. The hardest part of this hike will be the climb back out of hell. About half way down, the trail will split into two sections. It is easier to take the trail on the right. As you descend, you will leave the well-vegetated slopes and enter into the desolate realm of Bumpass Hell.
