Madrone-The Other Redwood

Where you can find Redwood trees you will also probably find Madrone trees. These trees are known for their smooth bark which has an intense red-brown coloration. Unlike the Redwood which is a softwood species, the Madrone is a hardwood tree. Its wood is used as a firewood in the area where it grows because it has a BTU content almost as high as oak.
