The trail begins a gradual but persistent ascent along the valley floor. The Merced river is a constant companion. If it cannot always be seen, its sound is omnipresent. Turning around will reveal a grand view of Yosemite falls on the far canyon wall. It is framed by the luminous sierra granite that comprises the valley walls.
