The steps finally lead to an alcove under an ominous overhang of rock. It does however provide a respite from the continual drenching of the fall's spray. The trail now bends around and will stay protected from the spray all the way to the top of the falls. The final plunge of Vernal Falls can be viewed by looking over the edge of the trail. If it is a sunny day a rainbow can usually be found.
