The hike now takes a turn for the worse. The bridge that used to allow a dry creek crossing has been swept away during the El Niño storms. Three choices are left to the hiker. One can use the fallen log as a dry but treacherous crossing, turn back and wait for the bridge to be replaced, or attempt to ford the creek. After much soul searching, the last alternative is taken.
